Kaduna NAWOJ Advocates Speedy Trial For Female Inmates

The Nigeria Association of Women Journalists, NAWOJ, Kaduna State Chapter, has pledged to advocate for speedy trial of female inmates with minor cases in correctional facilities.

This commitment was made by the chairperson of NAWOJ Kaduna, Hajiya Sahura Maidoki, during a visit to the Medium Security Custodial Centre, Kaduna, where the Association interacted with female inmates and donated essential items.

She explained that the visit is geared towards amplifying the voices of female inmates and seeking intervention through effective reportage.

While calling for speedy dispensation of justice for female inmates with minor cases, Hajiya Maidoki appealed to wealthy individuals, government, and relevant bodies to support prisoners with minor cases, to enable them to regain their freedom.

The assistant controller of the facility, Lawal Talle, commended the association for the visit, saying that such action makes the inmates feel a sense of belonging and not neglected.

He explained that the centre has been carrying out its mandate of reforming offenders, adding that inmates’ health and welfare were being taken care of, with most of them learning different skills and others pursuing their education through the open University.

Some of the items donated by the Association include slippers, toilet paper, bathing soap, underwear, detergent, and baby diapers, among other essentials.
