The Founder and Chief Executive Officer of Platters and Co Restaurant, Abuja, Jennifer Dinchi Zando, has stressed the need for the federal government to create improved agricultural systems and policy to boost food production in the country.
The Chief Executive Officer who stated this Abuja at an event to mark this year’s World Food Day, tagged, “Table for All” also called for conducive environment for all Nigerians to live a better life.
She who noted that the theme represents more than food, explained that the connotes connection, compassion, and community, as well as recognizing that every shared meal carries a story, and every story deserves to be heard.
According to her, ” The theme for this Year’s World Food Day is, Hand in Hand for Better Foods and a Better Future, this reminds us that food is not a privilege, it’s a right!!!”
Jennifer pointed out that the theme challenges mankind to work together hand in hand to build systems that are fair, sustainable, and inclusive.
”But the reality still remains, that over thirty-three million Nigerians face food insecurity.’ ‘that number is not just data, it’s our families, neighbors, and children, It’s people we know, and people we sometimes overlook.”
”At Platters & Co., we believe that change starts with small actions, by sharing what we have, by reducing waste, and by creating a culture where no one eats alone.”
She called for creative ways to pass on surplus food safely, and enable goal 12 which was responsible consumption and production.
”To our colleagues and friends in the hospitality industry, we call on you to join the Zero hunger Movement which is the SDG goal 2.”
”Let’s ensure that good food never goes to waste while others go hungry, together let’s share ideas on how leftovers from our businesses and our homes can be safely shared to people in our community.”
”To the youths, we see you and we thank you, ”We know a lot of you showed up because you love change and want a better country.”” Your passion is the reason this movement matters. Let’s keep speaking about this and seeking for a better Nigeria for all,”she added.
On his part, the Centre Manager Novare Central Mall, Abuja, Chidozie Osondu observed that the Day, remind one of the critical importance of ensuring food security and nutrition for all.
”Hunger remains one of the gravest challenges facing humanity, and it is incumbent upon us to take concerted action to eradicate it.”
According to him, ”Novare, as an organization, affirms our unwavering support for the global goals aimed at achieving zero hunger, promoting sustainable agricultural practices, and advancing equitable access to nutritious food.”
”We believe that this is achievable through collaborative efforts across governments, private sectors, and civil society that we can build resilient food systems capable of sustaining present and future generations.”
Chidozie Osondu stressed the need to renew commitment to the SDG goals with resolve and dedication, recognizing that access to sufficient, safe, and nutritious food was a fundamental human right.
”Together, we can create a world where no individual suffers from hunger or malnutrition, thereby fostering health, prosperity, and peace for all,” he added.
The high point of the event was the feeding of over four hundred and fifty people with meals , a farmers’ market of fruits or vegetables as well as hundred packs of donated items from Flour Mills Nigeria Limited.
