Wuse Zone 6 Residents Assured Of Clean Water Supply

todaySeptember 5, 2025

Background

The Wuse Zone 6 Neighbourhood Association has appealed to residents to exercise patience as the Federal Capital Territory Water Board (FCTWB) and the Abuja Environmental Protection Board (AEPB) intensify efforts to restore clean and safe water supply to the area.

This is contained in a statement signed by the Association’s Secretary, Dr. Ezenwa Nwakonobi, in Abuja.

According to the statement, the FCTWB and AEPB, in collaboration with the Association, have been working round the clock for over a week to address the issue of water contamination in the community.

The statement explains that the two agencies had been notified through several letters and visits in the past, but their inaction worsened the situation, exposing residents to serious health hazards.

“Recently, some residents reported health challenges consistent with water-borne diseases, with some cases leading to hospitalisation and high medical expenses. The Association responded through sustained complaints to the FCTWB and AEPB, while also bringing the matter into public domain” he stresses.

According to the statement, Dr. Nwakonobi notes that both agencies have now responded positively and are collaborating with the Association to resolve the problem.

“While the AEPB is evacuating impacted wastes and fixing compromised sewer lines, the FCTWB is flushing out contaminated water and replacing it with safe, treated water. Hopefully, the joint exercise will be concluded by the middle of next week,” he states.

The statement further commends the intervention of the two agencies and expressed optimism for a permanent resolution to the issue.

According to the statement, Dr. Nwakonobi commends the media for bringing the issue to the front burner.
