The Federal Government will on Monday, commence payment of outstanding liabilities to indigenous contractors of Nigeria.
In a statement in Abuja from the office of the Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives,
the agreement follows a meeting facilitated by the Deputy Speaker, Mr Benjamin Kalu with the Minister of Finance, Wale Edun, the Accountant-General of the Federation Shamsudeen Ogunjimi and the aggrieved contractors.
According to the statement, the agreement was made in the interest of the economy, and that parliament will reconvene later this month to review progress.
The Finance Minister, Wale Edun and the Accountant-General of the Federation, Shamsudeen Ogunjimi confirmed that a payment plan has been agreed to clear arrears, noting that some payments are already under way.
The Association of Indigenous Contractors welcomed the move and pledged to suspend further protests.
