Explore Potential Of Agricultural Products For Renewable Energy- Alabi

todayMay 23, 2025

Background

The Federal Government has been called upon to explore the potential of agricultural products in advancing renewable energy development.

Speaking at a media conference in Abuja, MD CEO Davidorlah
Farms Limited, which specializes in pineapple farming,
Ambassador Segun Alabi emphasized the need to transform Nigeria’s economy through agriculture, citing the country’s favorable climate and abundant arable land as critical assets.

Alabi noted that converting agricultural produce into clean energy could significantly contribute to tackling global warming and promoting environmental sustainability.

According to him, US companies are coming to Nigeria to invest $300 million in agricultural waste conversion, which could generate employment and boost the economy.

He also highlighted that agriculture has the potential to significantly increase Nigeria’s GDP, given the sector’s vast resources and potential for growth.

Alabi stressed the importance of implementing the right policies and legislative framework to support the agricultural sector and promote sustainable economic growth.

Furthermore, he emphasized the need for the government to collaborate more with the private sector to ensure food sustainability in the country.

This, he said, would help to leverage expertise, resources, and investments to drive agricultural development and food security.

However, Alabi expressed concern over the worsening insecurity in various parts of the country, which has made it increasingly difficult for farmers to access their lands and engage in productive farming activities.

He recommended that the federal government deploy security personnel to protect farmers while on their farms.
