The President, Nigerian Mining Geosciences Society, NMGS, Akinade Olatunji says the profession is critical to achieving sustainable development in diverse fields of the economy.
Mr. Olatunji made the remark at a news briefing ahead of the 60th annual international conference of the Society in Abuja.
He said the importance of utilising the professional tools and solutions from the fields would be on full display at the conference.
“The role of Geoscience in Agriculture and Food Security as contained in the theme and sub-themes : Geoscience and Mining Professions, are central to achieving sustainable development in very diverse fields”.
“The conference is therefore aimed at reawakening the consciousness of Nigeria and Nigerians to the centrality of the professions to the attainment of any meaningful development in the country” Mr. Olatunji noted.
According to the President of NMGS, the conference will be used to make the Nigerian public appreciate the need to utilise available resources in solving developmental challenges in various sectors of the economy.
Professor Olatunji added that experts from the energy, solid minerals, oil and gas, construction, water, environment, and agricultural sectors will be making presentations on cutting edge solutions to the challenges in these sectors.
“The Nigerian nation is looking for solutions and ways to solve the challenges confronted in these sectors. What we are saying as NMGS is that these solutions are here with us. We are going to be showing these in no small measure at the conference. The President of the NMGS, explains”
According to him, eminent individuals have been lined up to make presentations at this event.
