Stakeholders In Housing Sector Move To Address Housing Deficit

Stakeholders in the housing sector have been urged to leverage technology to improve accessibility to housing and address the housing deficit.

The Chief of Staff to former President, Muhammadu Buhari Professor Ibrahim Gambari, made the call at the Affordable Housing Summit in Abuja, with the theme: Disrupting Housing Finance for Inclusive Development.

He emphasized that all hands must be on deck to harness every available opportunity in the sector globally, noting that housing is one of the basic needs of humans, especially with the nation’s growing population.

Earlier, the Convener, Housing Finance Summit, a retired Permanent Secretary, Dr. Yemi Adelakun, stated that the summit aims to foster collaboration to provide not just shelter but quality and affordable homes through public-private partnerships and cooperatives.

According to, Dr. Adelakun, the strategic objective of NAHFIS is to proffer solutions to the housing needs of low and medium income earners in Nigeria through Innovative development for affordable but decent homes.

 

According to him, It will also promote innovative building technologies, digital transformation, self-help culture of the cooperative model, capacity building among professionals and artisans, as well as collaboration among stakeholders.

He further explained that the Summit advocates for policies and incentives that will enhance large scale delivery of houses (rent or owned) at prices affordable to home buyers both in the formal and informal Sectors of the economy.”

In a goodwill message, the former Executive Secretary of the Federal Government Staff Housing Loans Board, Mrs. Hannatu Fika recommended the reintroduction of artisan schools to ensure all artisans in the sector acquire the necessary expertise, thereby reducing the risk of building collapse.

International stakeholders at the event, Clem Jordan and Mark Weinrich, pledged to share their view and experiences driven by technology to give an insight to Nigeria’s policies on mass housing, aimed at addressing housing deficit.
