The Nigerian Navy says its Firemen stationed at the Naval Headquarters, in collaboration with other agencies, averted a potential fire catastrophe at the UTC Shopping Plaza in Garki on Monday.
According to a statement by the Director, Naval Information, Commodore Aiwuyor Adams-Aliu, in Abuja, an electric spark ignited a fire in one of the shops within the plaza, which threatened to spread to neighboring properties.
The statement notes that the authorities promptly called for assistance from the Nigerian Navy Firemen, Federal Fire Service, and the National Defence College Fire Service and upon arrival, the Naval Firemen, alongside their counterparts quickly deployed their expertise and resources to contain the escalating flames.
It explains that no casualties were recorded, and damage to properties was minimized due to the swift and coordinated efforts of all involved.
The statement emphasizes the Nigerian Navy Firemen’s commitment to protecting the community and ensuring public safety.
It also reiterates the importance of inter-agency cooperation in managing emergencies and safeguarding lives and assets.
