Nasarawa Amazons Football Club of Lafia earned a hard-fought 1-0 away win over Abia Angels to claim the top spot in Group A of the 2023/2024 Nigeria Women Football League (NWFL).

Coach Christopher Danjuma’s side secured a vital away 3 points over their host in Aba, who are languishing at the 6th position of the NWFL table after the match day 12 encounter.

The game played on Thursday as a rescheduled match due to Enyimba international game against Kano pillars Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) game on Wednesday 3rd of April,2024.

The first half started brighter as Nasarawa Amazons took total control of the midfield as the Lafia landladies know the pitch too well as if they are playing in their home ground.

Kalu Chinyere’s stunning 32-yard strike in the 26th minute put the game’s lone goal past former Amazons goalkeeper Mercy Vincent, giving Abia Angels a 1-0 lead at the half.

The second 45 minutes began with the home team Abia Angels playing like a wounded lion to get an equaliser but the rocky defense of Nasarawa Amazons were strong enough to protect the goal with Bakare making some brilliant saves as she won the game of the match in that game.

Nasarawa Amazons currently top group A standing with 23 points after 12 matches in the ongoing NWFL table putting them poised for a Super Six spot.

Coach Danjuma’s sider will next welcome Adamawa Queens in the matchday 13 at the Lafia city stadium, after the sallah break.
