Rivers Angels secured victory over Sunshine Queens in their Matchday 12 NWFL clash at the Akure Township Stadium on Wednesday thanks to Peace Effiong’s 42nd-minute goal.
Motivated by the immense support from the Rivers State government, Ogbonda says the girls fought hard until the final whistle, securing a well-deserved victory.
“It was a very difficult match for us, bearing in mind that we lost to Edo Queens two weeks ago which was a bad result and we came back to beat Delta Queens, there was a lot of pressure for us to win this match and we have won.
“The team was well motivated before we left Port Harcourt for this match and the motivation went a long way to ensure we got the three points at stake today.”
Ogbonda emphasized the importance of the next match, calling it a must-win for his team. He assured them they wouldn’t take the remaining two matches lightly.
“For now it’s a done deal for us that we are in Super Six but that does not mean we are going to relax, we have to go back home and ensure we get our 3 points against Bayelsa Queens.”
Meanwhile at the Kayode Oluyemi Stadium, Ado Ekiti, Ekiti Queens pipped Edo Queens 1-0 to leave the bottom of the log with 11 points. Ekiti Queens’ goalkeeper, Lucky Andy, faced more pressure than her counterpart as Edo Queens desperately chased an equalizer. She made series of important saves to deny Edo Queens a share of the spoils. Edo Queens are third with 19 points and FC Robo Queens fourth with 18 points.
Remo Stars Ladies secured a crucial 1-0 victory over FC Robo Queens at Remo Stars Stadium, Ikenne.
Adaobi Okah’s goal in the seventh minute propelled them clear of the relegation zone.
