Ahead of the scheduled governorship election in Ondo state, the National Working Committee (NWC) of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, on Tuesday met with stakeholders in the state.

In the same vein, the party also met state chairmen of the party at a closed door meeting.

Addressing newsmen after the meeting, the forum’s chairman and PDP chairman, Kaduna chapter, Mr Felix Hassan Hyat described the meeting as a family affair, saying the party and its stakeholders will keep meeting.

He added that the meeting was to also ensure that all state chapters of the party get to work leaving no stone unturned ahead of the 2027 general election.

Hyat maintained that the Party will continue to advise and support state chapters on areas of concern to move the party forward to achieve the desired results.

Speaking earlier, the party’s Organising Secretary, Umar Bature said the meeting was held to review the tenure of about 26 states, at the ward, local government and State level.

“Recall that most of the current executives in the states were elected four years ago, where Congresses were conducted on a staggered basis due to the COVID-19 issues.

Bature stated further: “We have about four – five states that their tenure has expired from the ward to the state, that is Edo, Bayelsa, Gombe and Rivers State, there are others which are staggered”.

“So in order not to create a vacuum or go into crisis that is why we have called this meeting. Also we have issues and crisis in these states, so we decided to call you for this meeting to interact with you on the way forward pending when the NEC will sit and decide on all these”.

“After the elections we expected the state chapters to give us their reports, that is the post 2023 election result. A lot of the states have not submitted their reports and we need those reports to be compiled for the next NEC meeting”.
