The Armed Forces of Nigeria has mourned the tragic loss of lives resulting from an attack on troops of Operation DELTA SAFE in Okuama Community in Delta State on March 14, 2024.

A statement by the Director Defence Media Operations, Major General Edward Buba in Abuja described as senseless and barbaric, the attack that claimed the lives of several gallant personnel, including the Commanding Officer of 181 Amphibious Battalion, 2 Majors, 1 Captain, and 12 other personnel.

It further states that the Chief of Defence Staff, CDS, General Christopher Musa, expressed deep condolences to the families, colleagues, and loved ones of the fallen soldiers, emphasizing their sacrifice in the pursuit of peace and security for the nation.

Highlighting the constitutional mandate of the military to protect the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Nigeria, General Musa reiterated the commitment of the Armed Forces to uphold the rule of law, even in the face of provocation.

Addressing concerns of reprisal attacks, the military clarified that it did not engage in such actions and called for cooperation from community leaders and residents in identifying and holding the perpetrators accountable.

The Armed Forces appealed to the public to refrain from circulating videos of the incident out of respect for the fallen soldiers and their families, urging vigilance and support for ongoing efforts to ensure the safety and security of all citizens.

It adds that as the nation mourns the loss of these brave soldiers, the military remains resolute in their mission to safeguard the nation and its people from threats both domestic and external.
