As part of efforts to boost Nigeria’s socio economic growth, the National Mathematical Centre is being repositioned to use Mathematics in strengthening the national economy.
The Director General of the Centre, Prof Promise Mebine, at the Opening of a three day Staff Retreat in Abuja said that Mathematics and its applications play pivotal roles in strengthening the economy and national statistics.
He therefore stressed that for the country to be developed and come out of its economic challenges and difficulties, policy makers must embrace the gains inherent in Mathematical principles and its applications.
Prof Mebine encouraged the staff to work hard towards accomplishing the renewed hope agenda of the present Administration by redoubling efforts to make Nigerians embrace Mathematics and its relevance to national life.
He stressed that the challenge of improving teaching, learning and research in Mathematics and the Mathematical Sciences lies in their ability to improve interest in the subject in the education system, especially for pupils and students.
