Nasarawa Police Arrest Syndicate For Stealing, Selling 45 Children

Nasarawa State Police Command has arrested a ten-member syndicate for allegedly stealing and selling 45 children in four States including Abuja.

The State Commissioner of Police, Mr. Umar Shehu Nadada who stated this while parading 47 suspects in Lafia said Six of the stolen children were recovered by the police in Abuja, Ondo, and Lagos States.

The State Commissioner of Police, Mr. Shehu Nadada said the arrest of the ten-member syndicate followed the confession of one Ismaila Adamu who was apprehended for allegedly stealing a five-year-old boy in Keffi Local Government Area of the state and selling to one Mrs Hassana Jacob.

He stated that some social welfare officers in Government institutions allegedly conspired with the suspects to prepare fake documents to enable them sell the children to willing buyers.

In an interview, one of the suspects, Mrs Hassana Jacob, a mother of four children revealed that she stole the children mostly from Plateau State and sold them for between 250 000 and 400 000 Naira.

One Abdulkarim Abubakar and Mrs Sherifat Amuda who were arrested in Niger and Ogun States however said they did not know that the children were stolen.

Among the 47 suspects were two suspects who were arrested for allegedly having 45 counterfeit bundles of one hundred naira denomination notes worth 450,000.
