Wike To Journalists :Project Good Works Of Police, Places 20m Bounty On Kidnappers

As part of measures to secure the nation’s capital, the FCT Minister, Mr Nyesom Wike has placed a 20 million naira bounty on two wanted kidnappers terrorizing the FCT.

Wike who made this commitment in Abuja when he paid a working visit to the FCT Police Command, also tasked journalists to cultivate the habit of publicizing the good works of police in maintaining law and order in the society.

“And let me employ the Press to always report the positive things about the police and other security agencies. You see, in most cases, If they don’t bring these guys out, you won’t know what they have done. Because their own is not to make noise, their own is to do their job”.

“So, try and publicise positive aspects of what they are doing. Not everyday, negative, negative, negative. Because, all of us, if FCT is not safe, you as journalists too, you can’t be here. So, you need a safe environment to carry out your own job, so partner with the Police, you will see a lot of results would be achieved ” Wike Advised.

Mr Wike who was delighted over the 23 men and women arrested for terrorizing Abuja as kidnappers and One Chance operators, commended the Police Commissioner and his men for a job well done, and urged them to do more.

Wike promised to provide all the needed support to security agencies to win the war against insecurity in the territory, adding that more vehicles and communications gadgets would be made available to security agencies in the next few days.

His words: “the difference is clear.Let me assure you and your men, we will do everything humanly possible to provide you all that u required to fight crime and criminality in the FCT. And let me assure the residents of FCT that by the support of President Bola Tinubu, we are fully prepared to take the war to the criminals.Every day is for the thief, one day for the owner”.

“They have terrorized us, they were happy making news. You will be thinking that those terrorizing are such a huge people.Well, I trust the Police, make sure you train them in the best university. I want them to be well educated, send them to Harvard University, Cambridge University, Oxford University so that they can be well trained since you don’t want to go to school here… As you say we will not sleep, you will not sleep ” Wike said.

The 20million naira bounty placed on the remaining two notorious kidnappers by name, Dahiru Adamu and Abu Ibrahim is to aide the police fish out the duo who are currently on the ‘wanted list’ of the FCT police command for kidnapping in the nation’s capital.

“I do believe that the residents of the FCT today will have more confidence in the police. You said it is remaining about two or three persons, wherever they are, send your men out there, I will give them 20million naira. Go and fish them out whereever they are, I want to see them life or dead” Wike said.

In his welcome address, the Commissioner of Police, FCT Command, Benneth Igwe reiterated the commitment of the police to secure the lives and property of residents, and hinted that the criminals that had been attacking people in FCT have been arrested.

“The suspects who were responsible for activities of the One Chance robbery in the FCT are all here. This group are responsible for the kidnapping at the Federal Mortgage Housing Estate, they had confessed to that your Excellency”.

“They are responsible for the kidnap in Keti village, they are responsible for the kidnap of a gate man and his madam in Kabusa Estate, they are equally responsible for the kidnap of Mr Sunday Zokwayi, the district head, they killed him. We recovered the sum of N9m ransome from them. We recovered their guns, AK 47 rifles, bulletproof vests and locally fabricated walkie talkies” Igwe said.

CP Igwe used the medium to send a stern warning to criminals operating within the territory to stay off the territory, and pointed out that the war against insecurity would also be extended to neighbouring states like Niger, Nasarawa and Kaduna states to make FCT a safe space.
