ACCI Inaugurates 12th President

The Abuja Chamber of Commerce and Industry, ACCI, has inaugurated Chief Emeka Obegolu as the 12th President of the Chamber.

On the occasion in Abuja, the Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Mr Benjamin Okezie Kalu described the New President of ACCI as a competent Senior Advocate of Nigeria, SAN, Entrepreneur and Astute Business Man with many years of experience who would contribute his wealth of knowledge in enhancing the progress of the Chamber.

Mr Kalu who described ACCI activities as critical to economic development advised Chief Obegolu to embark on programmes that would compliment the efforts of President Bola Tinubu’s led administration in repositioning Nigeria’s economy.

The Deputy Speaker who equally enjoined the New Leadership of ACCI to use their contacts and connection in attracting Foreign Direct Investment, FDI, towards boosting the nation’s Gross Domestic Product, GDP promised the National Assembly’s support to ACCI programmes.

In a message, the Minister of Industry, Trade and Investment, Dr Doris Anite commended the contributions of ACCI to trade and economic advancement of the Federal Capital Territory and the country at large.

Dr Anite said her Ministry would continue to collaborate with the Chamber on policies and programmes that would fast track the growth of the nation’s economy.

While congratulating the New President of ACCI, Chief Emeka Obegolu on his inauguration, the Minister emphasized the need for more public-private sector collaboration towards ensuring national economic development.

In his inaugural speech, the New President of Abuja Chamber of Commerce and Industry, ACCI, Chief Emeka Obegolu promised to leverage on the successes recorded so far by his Predecessors towards taking the Chamber to a greater height.

Chief Obegolu used the opportunity to advise the Government to address overlapping roles of various agencies while regulatory oversight should be carried out to maintain standard and ensure compliance.

He also enjoined Government to simplify the tax system and reduce the burden of multiple taxation on businesses to ensure compliance, increase investment and stimulate economic growth.

While stressing the need for Government’s policy on consistent access to funding, provision of infrastructure, security and creation of enabling environment for businesses to thrive, the New President of ACCI called for measures that would assist the growth of Small and Medium Enterprises, SMEs in the country.

The inauguration was attended by Members of the Diplomatic Corps, Captains of Industries, Traditional Rulers among others.
