The era of using the rainy season as an excuse by contractors to delay road projects execution will no longer be tolerated.

Minister of the Federal Capital Territory Administration, Mr Nyesom Wike, who gave this warning in Kuje Area Council, warned contractors handling the Tipper Garage – LEA Secretariat road to be prepared to deliver a timely job, or risk revocation of the contract.

Wike emphasised, that if contractors could collect money during the rainy season, they must be ready to execute the job during the rainy season without complain.

The Minister said his Administration would also carry out a comprehensive rehabilitation of public schools in the territory and completion of the Utako hospital, aside road projects.

“Take for example, the Utako General Hospital that has not been completed; the General Hospital Gwagwalada. We are going to put them in order for the use of our people”.

Responding, a Consultant and Developer, Mr Patrick Ojo, said the project would reduce travel time and decongest the usual traffic jam from Kuje to Gwagwalada.

According to him, “The people of Kuje have long awaited this project and we are impressed and happy that the minister, out of his busy schedule is able to come here, because we know everywhere he goes and makes a promise and intentions known, it will definitely come to pass and for that reason we are waiting in anticipation to hear from the working minister.”

He described himself as a partner in progress in the affairs of FCTA, pointing out the series of developmental projects he handled over the years.

“I have been working with FCTA in different capacity, advisory and consultancy bases and developer. The developer of the new Kuje shopping complex, the Dawaki market and the Dutsen-Alhaji market popularly called the Olajumoke Shopping Complex and a lot of other development in town here, so l am a stakeholder in FCT and in Kuje in particular.” Ojo said

The Director overseeing the Satellite Towns Development Department, Dr Olusegun Olusa said the determination of Mr Wike to construct 18 rural roads within one year is an indication that this Administration is committed to running an inclusive governance.

He also promised effective supervision of the projects.

Flag off for commencement of construction of Kuje rural roads makes it the third embarked by the FCTA in the Area Councils.

The FCT Minister had this month flagged off the 9km PaiKon – Kore-Ibwa Road in Gwagwalada Area Council, 7.2 km Gaba-Tokulo road in Bwari Area Council and now the 5km Tipper Garage – LEA Secretariat Road in Kuje Area Council.
