AGF Urges Traditional, Religious Leaders, To Fight Corruptio

The Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Prince Lateef Fagbemi has urged religious and traditional leaders to join the fight against corruption.

This is contained in a statement by his senior special adviser on communications and Publicity, Mr Kamarudeen Ogundele.

According to the statement the AGF stated this in Abuja, at the opening of a Public Engagement on Youth, Religion and the Fight Against Corruption organized by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC.

The statement enjoins them to use their positions as agents of social control to motivate people to work for positive change in the country.

It states that the event featured the launch of the ‘Interfaith Preaching and Teaching Manuals” and “Fraud Risk Assessment Project for Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs),” by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu who was represented by the Vice President, Kashim Shettima.

The statement stresses that it was important to use religious organizations as an indispensable partner in the fight against economic and financial crimes.

It emphasises that there was no doubt that religion serves as an agent of social control of behaviour and motivates people to work for positive change adding that in religious organizations, leaders and followers are involved directly or indirectly in any activity that will negatively impact the society.

It says President Tinubu is determined to collaborate with stakeholders in tackling corruption using multi-dimensional approach and prevention of crimes as well as effective investigation and prosecution of offenders.

The statement however urges religious leaders and the teeming youths to take ownership of the fight against corruption and effectively collaborate with the EFCC in combating financial crimes and sundry offences.
