FRSC Records 22% Decrease In Road Accidents

The Federal Road Safety Corps, FRSC says it recorded 10,617 road accidents in 2023 representing 22 percent decrease when compared to 13,656 recorded cases in 2022.

Corps Marshal Dauda Ali-Biu stated this in Abuja while briefing Newsmen on the end of the year ‘Operation Zero Tolerance Exercise’ .

Ali Biu who attributed the decrease in road accidents In 2023 to increased visibility of personnel on the highway said 5,031 people were killed due to road accidents last year against 6,456 cases in 2022 representing 21 per cent reduction.

Mr Dauda Ali Biu noted that overspeeding, driving under the influence of alcohol, Night journey, tyre burst and wrong overtaking were factors responsible for road accidents in the country.

The FRSC Boss emphasized that 29,220 traffic offenders were also apprehended for committing 33,892 offences.

While commending the Federal Government’s support to the giant strides recorded by the Corps, the FRSC Corps Marshal said the management would increase its engagement with stakeholders and ensure strict enforcement to punish traffic offenders.

He warned motorists to desist from knocking down officers as the corps would not take it lightly with anyone found molesting or assaulting its personnel on duty.

The Corps Marshal assured that the FRSC would enhance consultation with fleet operators for the establishment of driving schools for training and retraining of drivers for effective traffic management in the country.

He however, warned that the management would no longer condone any act of indiscipline and incivility from personnel.
