Military Steadfast In Counter Insurgency Campaign – Buba

The Armed Forces of Nigeria says its troops have recorded substantial advancements in continuous efforts against terrorists and criminal entities nationwide.

This is contained in a statement by the Director of Defence Media Operations,
Major General Edward Buba, in Abuja.

According to the statement, the military remains steadfast in their counter-insurgency campaign, thwarting the strategic objectives of terrorist groups with targeted offensives, including ambushes, raids, and fighting patrols conducted over the past week, which resulted in the neutralization of 43 terrorists, the arrest of 115 individuals, and the recovery of 87 assorted weapons and 666 ammunition.

The Statement notes that beyond combating terrorism, the armed forces successfully apprehended 17 individuals engaged in oil theft, rescued 39 hostages and prevented oil theft estimated at N159,652,620.00, in the Niger Delta region.

It further explains that military operations in the Niger Delta also led to the destruction of 20 dugout pits, 29 boats, 31 storage tanks, one tricycle, and 3 vehicles.

Furthermore, 25 illegal refining sites were dismantled, resulting in the seizure of 315,700 liters of stolen crude oil, 1,200 liters of illegally refined AGO, and 3,158 liters of DPK.

It adds that recovered items by the troops in their various theatres of operation spans a range of weapons, including AK47 rifles, FN rifles, pump-action guns, locally fabricated guns, pistols, and ammunition.

Additionally, 6 vehicles, 21 mobile phones, 9 motorcycles, 15 bicycles, and various materials used by criminals were confiscated.

Major General Edward Buba expresses confidence in defeating terrorists on both the battlefield and in their hiding places, underscoring the military’s dedication to the nation’s progress.

He calls on the public to act responsibly by seeing themselves as partners in the ongoing war against terrorism as the Armed Forces of Nigeria diligently works to safeguard the nation.
