Christmas : IGP Harps On Synergy To Curb Criminal Activities

In a significant move to further secure the nation ahead of the Yuletide season, the Inspector General of Police, IGP, Kayode Egbetokun, has convened a meeting with Strategic Police Managers in Abuja.

At the meeting the IGP emphasized the critical need for seamless collaboration among law enforcement agencies, particularly with the festive season approaching.

He praised the Force for its significant strides in crime prevention, crediting proactive policing strategies and community engagement initiatives.

The IGP further announced increased deployment at strategic locations to deter criminal activities and ensure the safety of citizens in anticipation of the festive season.

Highlighting recent achievements, the Police Boss revealed that in the past ten weeks, the police successfully rescued 134 kidnap victims, apprehended 375 suspected kidnappers, detained 578 armed robbery suspects, brought in 431 suspects for rape, arrested 724 murder/homicide suspects, and apprehended 2,343 suspects for other criminal offences.

Additionally, law enforcement officers recovered 419 firearms and 4,235 pieces of ammunition of various calibers.

The IGP identified other noteworthy successes to include resolving the Otukpo bank robbery and intercepting illicit arms intended for distribution to IPOB/ESN camps.

In another significant development, Egbetokun signed an MoU with representatives from the US Government’s
International Narcotics and Law Enforcement Affairs
INL, which seeks to focus on the operationalization of the Special Intervention Squad.

This collaborative effort aims to enhance the Nigerian Police Force’s capacity in addressing emerging security challenges.

The IGP expressed gratitude for the partnership, highlighting the importance of international collaboration in combating transnational crime and ensuring national security.

He also reiterated the Nigerian Police Force’s commitment to professionalism and service delivery.

The IGP urged Strategic Police Managers to adopt a new policing vision centered on discipline, professional competence, the rule of law, and a passion for excellence

This commitment, he emphasized, is crucial for the nation’s economic prosperity and socio-political development.
