Very soon, it will be a thing of the past to see residential buildings in locations without the needed basic infrastructure for human comfort in Abuja.

The FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike gave this indication when he inspected sites earmarked for construction of Judges Residential houses and Court in Katampe, Utako and Jabi Areas in Abuja.

Wike who was on a tour to ascertain the level of infrastructure on the proposed sites before commencement of the projects, said the construction of the buildings cannot begin until the basic infrastructure are provided.

To this end, the FCT Minister directed the Federal Capital Development Authority, FCDA, to expedite action in the provision of infrastructure in the areas allocated for the judges accommodation.

We can’t start residential buildings where there is no basic infrastructure.
Remember we said we are going to build accommodation for Judges of the Federal High Court, Judges of the FCT High Court and for the Justices of the Court of Appeal, Abuja Division…we have to go and see the sites, and we found out that the needed infrastructure are yet to be provided. This made us direct the FCDA to quickly provide the infrastructure so that we can start the residential buildings”.

At a visit to the proposed site for the Court of Appeal Complex in Jabi, Wike ordered FCDA to fix the road and pay compensation to those whose structures maybe affected in the course of constructing the complex.

He noted that the move was part of efforts to renew Nigerians’ hope and trust in the government, through the renewed hope agenda of President Bola Tinubu.

Speaking on how to fund some of the ongoing projects, Wike assured that IGR would be used as collateral to obtain loans from banks to fund projects.

He added that procurement processes for all the proposed projects would commence immediately the 2024 budget is passed and assented to by President Tinubu.

One of such projects is the proposed construction of a modern Memorial Centre at Jabi on the site where a shopping mall collapsed and claimed seven lives in 2018.

So, I decided to visit and see the place, and directed the Director of Parks and Recreation to bring out a proper design for a modern memorial park for people to remember those who lost their lives,” Wike said.
