A Civil Society Organisation, Peering Advocacy and Advancement Centre in Africa has called for an enabling environment for the electoral umpire, INEC to promote fairness in a democratic system.
The Chairman of the Centre, Mr Ezenwa Nwogu made the call at a news briefing on the recent court verdicts on governorship elections across the country.
Mr Nwogu explained that the 2023 elections had its challenges but there was need to strengthen the electoral system to fastrack development.
According to Nwogu “The Twenty twenty Three elections had its challenges but the positives outweighed the challenges, and therefore those institutions that are in the business of strengthening our democracy need to be encouraged by everyone who means well for the country”.
“Ezenwa who decried the current attack on the judiciary and the independent Electoral Commission said it will not promote the Sustainance of democracy” he noted.
“We must do everything possible to ensure that if there are any challenges we must deal with those challenges with the view of improving but not to castigate and lose confidence in the institutions”.
Mr Nwogu therefore advocated constant engagement with the Independent National Election Commission (INEC) and the Judiciary to promote transparency in upcoming elections.
