In Furtherance of the Bilateral Education Agreement aimed at supporting young scholars to achieve their educational pursuit in foreign countries, 83 students are set to depart Nigeria to Morocco for studies.
At the pre-departure briefing in Abuja, the minister of Education, Prof Tahir Mamman who commended the government of both countries, noted that
the scholars had successfully completed the Mandatory Nine Months French Language Training Programme and are now fully prepared for departure to Morocco for their main academic courses for the 2023/2024 academic session.
Prof Mamman advised the students to be good ambassadors, while obeying the laws of the land as well as maintain their cultural identity.
“Your selection as scholars is part of a broader plan of deepening the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, in ensuring that brilliant Nigerians, especially those that cannot afford to study programmes that are not readily available in Nigeria, are supported to get necessary knowledge, skills, and competencies that would be useful in Nigeria’s development agenda,” Mamman said.
” l therefore need to advise you not to see this as a freedom and begin to do things that would be a disgrace to you, your parents, and the country. Nigeria is investing a lot in you and expects that returns of the investment will manifest in your coming back to help move your nation forward”.
Some of the scholars expressed gratitude to the Nigeria and Moroccan governments for this life changing opportunity to contribute their quota to the development of the country upon completion of their studies.
“God bless Nigeria, because l don’t have anybody l got this surprisingly, l didn’t pay for this scholarship and l thank Nigerian government for this tremendous opportunity, l registered online and was called to bring my documents to Abuja, l appreciate them very well and won’t let them down”.
Earlier in her remarks, the Director Federal Scholarship Board, Asta Ndaitwo said
the 83 scholars drawn from the six geo polittical zones of the country are to depart in two batches starting from 23th and 24th of Novermber, 2023.
She added that the first tranche of their allowance from September to December has been fully paid into their accounts, urging them to utilize the money judiciously.
“Beginning from January, next year all other sponsorship allowances will be paid through the Central Bank of Nigeria in collaboration with the Nigeria embassy in Morocco,” she said.
In recent months under the BEA, Scholars have also gone for studies in Hungary, and Russia among others, while selections for the Commonwealth Scholarship have reached an advanced stage.
