SON To Sustain Surveillance On Substandard Products

Worried about the large number of uncertified, unregistered and substandard products in circulation,the Standards Organization of Nigeria, SON has promised to sustain surveillance to ensure compliance with standards.

The Director General of SON, Dr Ifeanyi Chukwunonso Okeke stated this in minna, Niger State during the presentation of the Mandatory Conformity Assessment Programme-MANCAP certificates to Nineteen companies.

The Director General of the Standards Organization of Nigeria, Dr Ifeanyi Chukwunonso Okeke represented by the State Coodinator, Hajiya Hauwa Nuhu Yusuf said the organization will continue to ensure that manufacturers comply with standards to ensure that customers get value for their money.

The Permanent Secretary, Niger State ministry of Industry,Trade and Investment, Alhaji Hamza Bello pointed out that the state government will continue to provide an enabling environment for manufacturers to thrive.

The State Coodinator, Nigeria Export Promotion Council, Mallam Bello Ibrahim Noma enjoined manufacturers to register with the council to ensure improved product packaging for export.

Some recipients of The Mandatory Conformity Assessment Programme-MANCAP certificate, Amina Sani Junaid and Isah Baba Yaro promised to maintain standards.

Twenty four product certificates were presented to nineteen companies.

The Mandatory Conformity Assessment Programme-MANCAP by the Standards Organization of Nigeria is aimed at ensuring compliance with Made-in-Nigeria products to the minimum requirements of the Nigerian Industrial Standards or Code of practice to promote fair competition at both the domestic and international markets, as well as safeguard the safety and health of consumers.

The program is already promoting economic and industrial development in Niger state as over one hundred Mirco, small Medium Enterprises have received MANCAP Certificates in the state.
