The Federal Capital Territory Administration has restated its commitment to a clean and environmental friendly nation’s capital worthy of emulation.

The Senior Special Assistant to the FCT Minister on Environment and Waste Management, Dr. Fred Kpakol stated this during an interactive with the Management of Abuja Environmental Protection Board, AEPB and Solid Waste Contractors in Abuja.

Dr Kpakol who said the present administration of President Bola Tinubu and the Minster of FCT, Mr Nyesom Wike are working tirelessly to build a befitting FCT through good environmental sanitation explained that the interactive session was to get first hand information that could hinder the set objectives.

While acknowledging some of the challenges confronting the Contractors, Dr Kpakol assured them of payment of their outstanding money being owed by the Administration on the services they have rendered on solid waste collection and disposal.

He explained that more initiatives on good environmental sanitation would be introduced to ensure a clean city centre in line with best international standard.

The Senior Special Assistant who said he had been given a matching order by the Minister of FCT to ensure an environmental friendly Municipality announced that efforts would also be made to extend same to the satellite towns.

In a remark, the Director of Abuja Environmental Protection Board, AEPB, Mr Osilama Braimah commended the Senior Special Assistant for the interactive saying it would go a long way to boost the performance of the Board on environmental sanitation.

Mr Osilama Braimah also called for the continuous support of the Solid Waste Contractors in making the city centre free of liquid and solid waste.

Speaking on behalf of the Contractors, the Chairman, FCT Solid Waste Contractors, Mr Ibrahim Babayo identified non payment for their outstanding services as one of the challenges hindering waste management disposal within the city centre.

Mr Babayo therefore appealed to the FCT Administration to look into the payment to enable them settle their bank loans and outstanding salaries of their workers.
