The Christian Association of Nigeria, CAN is to embark on sensitization campaign in promoting and protecting the rights of women and the Girl child in the country.
The Assistant General Secretary of CAN, Dr Uzoaku Williams stated this in Abuja at the Pre Assembly and Launch of Sixteen Days of Activism Against Gender Based Violence organized by the All African Conference of Churches.
Dr Uzoaku Williams said already CAN was working with other Religious organizations and relevant stakeholders in educating rural women on their rights and the need to fully participate in political and socio economic activities in their areas.
She stressed that religious Organizations have a critical role to play in promoting and ensuring well being of women to compliment their spiritual growth.
The Director, Gender and Women of the Conference, Dr Lydia Mwaniki advocated stronger collaboration among women in religious and secular spaces to address issues affecting women in Africa.
A guest speaker from the Methodist Church, Ghana, Very Reverend Comfort Quartey -Papafio appealed to women to shun all cultural impediments that might stop them from exercising their fundamental rights at all levels of human endeavor.
No fewer than Seven Hundred Delegates From Africa and Europe are participating in the conference to accelerate full involvement of women in Africa’s development in line with AU Agenda 2060.
