Accord Voting Priority To Pregnant, Elderly People – GEW

The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC has been urged to accord priority to pregnant women, nursing mothers, the elderly and people with disabilities in this Saturday off cycle Governorship elections in Kogi, Bayelsa and Imo states..

Chief Executive Officer of a Civil Society Group, Gender and Election Watch, GEW, Brenda Anugwom who gave the advise while addressing Newsmen in Abuja said this measure was in line with the Amended Electoral Act 2022.

Brenda Anugwom emphasized the need for political parties and their candidates to adhere strictly to the peace accord for a peaceful and credible conduct of the polls.

The Chief Executive Officer of the CSO appealed to security agencies to provide a safe environment for the citizens to exercise their franchise.

She also stressed that perpetrators of electoral violence and fraud must be dealt with accordingly.

Anugwom also said that the Gender and Election Watch has deployed no fewer than one hundred accredited observers to monitor the polls in the three States.
