In a bid to address the growing challenges of insecurity in the country, the House of Representatives Committee on the Army has reaffirmed its commitment to placing the Nigerian Army on a solid footing.

The Chairman of the Committee, Abdullahi Mamudu, who made this declaration during the committee’s inauguration, emphasized the responsibility they hold towards Nigerians.

Mr Mamudu announced that the committee has developed a comprehensive four-year work plan, which will be diligently followed to fulfil its mandate.

The plan aims to enhance the capabilities of the Nigerian Army in combating the various security threats plaguing the nation.

We must approach this responsibility with utmost seriousness and recognize that we must empower the Nigerian Army to effectively address the numerous challenges of insecurity we face,” Mamudu stated.

According to the Chairman, the committee’s oversight mandate encompasses several key areas, including the Nigerian Army’s operations, ammunition depots, forts, arsenals, reservations, and establishments.

Additionally, the committee will oversee the development projects, army barracks, landed properties, and related assets. Furthermore, it will scrutinize the annual budget estimates of the Army, ensuring transparency and accountability”.

In recent years, Nigeria has faced significant security challenges, including insurgency, banditry, kidnapping, and communal clashes.

The Nigerian Army plays a crucial role in maintaining peace and security across the nation.

However, there have been calls for increased support and reforms to enhance its effectiveness in addressing these threats.

The House of Representatives Committee on the Army, comprising dedicated members, is poised to work closely with the Nigerian Army’s leadership to identify areas that require attention and propose necessary reforms.

Therefore, by conducting rigorous oversight and implementing the four-year work plan, the committee aims to strengthen the Nigerian Army’s capacity and equip it to tackle the prevailing security issues effectively.

Mamudu urged committee members to provide maximum cooperation and dedication to achieve the committee’s objectives.

He also emphasized the importance of collaboration and collective effort in addressing the security challenges faced by the nation.
