The Abuja Municipal Area Council, AMAC, has restated commitment towards prioritizing education in the council for the benefit of the less privileged.
The Executive Chairman of the Abuja Municipal Area Council, Christopher Maikalangu stated this during the flag-off of scholarship award Scheme to one thousand and twenty four students in tertiary institutions drawn from the twelve wards of the council.
Maikalangu said the Scholarship award is in fulfillment of his campaign promises to assist brilliant and less – privileged students within the council.
The AMAC Boss, revealed that, based on recommendations of the scholarship award committee, the council will spend N30,000,000 million for the 2022/2023 scholarship exercise.
The Supervisory Councillor on Education, Obiora Arinze commended the chairman for the kind gesture adding the scholarship will aid their academic pursuit.
According to him, Post Graduate students will get fifty thousand naira each, University undergraduates, thirty thousand naira each while polytechnics and colleges of education students would receive twenty thousand naira each.
Arinze further explained that a rigorous exercise was conducted along with Councillors drawn from the 12 wards of the Council, to ensure equity and transparency.
Earlier, the Head of Department Education, Dr Sheriff Ibrahim, said Maikalangu helped in securing admission for many AMAC residents in the University of Abuja and urged students to make the required cut off marks for admission if they need help from the AMAC Chairman.
The President, AMAC Students Association, Miss Salihu Honest Gode, a final year student of Accounting, University of Jos, said the beneficiaries, drawn from different institutions, are grateful for the scholarship and pledged to support Maikalangu in all his political aspirations.
She added that the chairman’s kind gesture would go a long way in ameliorating the numerous challenges confronting AMAC students especially the less privileged.
