The Chairman of the Forum of Former Deputy Governors of Nigeria, FFDGN, Chris Akomas, says the relationship between governors and their deputies must be that of partnership for meaningful development .

Akomas stated this at the closing ceremony of the forum’s two day national summit held in Abuja.

He said the governors and their deputies must learn to put differences aside and focus on the main goal which is good governance.

“The key instrument there is the goal, which is to deliver good governance to the people. In all they do the focus should be for the general good of the people” he added.

He added that no government can achieve meaningful development without peace and tolerance .

“The relationship between the governors and their deputies should be that of partnership because they came together and agreed to work together and serve the people” Akomas stressed.

He explained that where there is peace and tolerance, the people will be able to work together and deliver on the developmental goals of the society.

“The stakeholders led by the governor have a vision and a goal, which is the state, whereas the people also have an expectation which is that they want things to work well and where there are quarrels, things can not work well, so that partnership must be there” the Chairman of the Forum stated.

“We must also recognize the fact that there is only one Chief executive officer, one Chief security officer for the state and there is a deputy chief accountant officer for the state which is the deputy governor. The synergy must be that of dropping personal differences and focusing on the service”.

“Let the focus be on making things better and if we must make things better we must work together. If we must work well together there must be peace and if there is peace we can deliver” Akomas emphasized.

The Chairman of the Forum added that the forum is not out to awaken the past but looking for new ways, strategies and solutions that can reposition the country.

The two day event was attended by all former deputy governors, present deputy governors, chairman of the Governor’s forum and Kwara State Governor, Senior Government officials, Ambassadors amongst others.
