Niger : Abdulsalam Backs Green Economy Initiative

Former Head of State, General Abubakar Abdulsalam, has
Pledged his support to the Green Economy initiative in Niger state.

General Abdulsalam while emphasizing on the importance of embracing a green economy also commended the Niger State Governor, Mohammed Umar Bago, for his good leadership since taking over office.

His commendation came at the opening of the Green Economic Summit in Niger State Organised by the Niger State Government.

Reflecting on past memories, General Abdulsalam mentioned a previous regime under Governor David Mark when a policeman issued a ticket to his father for not planting a tree in front of his house.

He expressed his delight that Governor Bago is now revisiting such environmentally conscious policies and striving to promote the green economy in Niger State.

“I want to congratulate you for this effort,” he said. “Certainly, we need to do something to go back to a green economy. I want to commend you and wish you all the best as we discuss the importance of annexing the green economy.”

General Abdulsalam who also commended Governor Babagana Zulum of Borno State for his dedication to public service and support for Governor Bago’s Green Economy initiative.

He encouraged the public to support the green economy.

Responing, Governor Zulum applauded Governor Bago’s initiative, expressing optimism that the Green Economy Summit would play a crucial role in achieving economic transformation and generating employment opportunities.

He highlighted the rising costs of fossil fuel and carbon emissions as global concerns and stressed the importance of harnessing green assets and innovation for economic growth.

“The increasing cost of fossil fuel and indeed carbon emission into our environment is a great concern to the teeming population of Nigeria and the world in general,”

“I’m glad to note that today’s summit is to discuss harnessing the potential of the green economy in Niger State”.

The two-day Green Economy Summit, themed “Sustainable Future: Harnessing Green Assets and Innovation for Niger State’s Prosperity,” aims to provide valuable insights and recommendations for promoting sustainable economic growth in the state.
