Minister of Police Affairs, Senator Ibrahim Gaidam, has reiterated the need for Nigeria and the United Kingdom to further deepen their relationship to promote peace, security, and economic development in both nations.
The Minister stated this when the British High Commissioner, Richard Montgomery, paid him a working visit at the ministry’s headquarters in Abuja.
Gaidam, who noted that the United Kingdom has consistently been a champion of democracy, human rights, and the rule of law, stressed the need for both countries to continue to collaborate to ensure the safety of their nations and their people.
The Minister, while recognising the expertise and experience of the United Kingdom in the area of security, said the ministry was looking forward to collaborating with them, particularly in the face of transnational crimes, terrorism, and other security challenges.
“We recognise the expertise and experience of the United Kingdom in these fields and eagerly look forward to discussions that will further enhance our cooperation. We express our sincere gratitude for taking the time to visit and engage with us. Your presence and those of your entourage here underscores the deepening relationship between Nigeria and the United Kingdom and the commitment to further strengthen our ties”

Earlier, the High Commissioner, Richard Montgomery, while applauding the Nigerian police, especially those working at the community level, said both countries needed to harness common knowledge within the system to strengthen their relationship.
“We are generally standing ready to work closely with the current administration. We can see some bold reforms happening in the economy, we see some bold leadership in the region through ECOWAS and we see the experienced ministerial team in place. We feel we can work across several sectors”.
The Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Nasir Sani-Gwarzo, highlighted the deep-rooted ties between both countries and expressed the unwavering commitment of the ministry to ensuring the safety and security of Nigeria and its citizens.
