The Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Mr. Benjamin Kalu, has spoken out against the sit-at-home Order in the South-East region, calling it a “lazy man’s approach to agitation.”

Kalu who made this remark during a courtesy call by members of the Ohanaeze Ndigbo socio-cultural group in his office urged the people to reject the illegal order of sit-at-home and emphasized the importance of maintaining peace in the region.

He stressed the need for hard work, stating, “If you work small, you get small, if you work big, you get big.”

Despite the challenges faced by Nigeria, Kalu expressed his belief in the unity of the country, suggesting that instead of separation, efforts should be made to attract smaller countries to join Nigeria and make it great.

As the leader of the parliament, Kalu proposed a regional economy integration policy that would involve collaboration among all the states in the Southeast, particularly in the development of rail lines.

He called upon the governors in the region to consider establishing a regional fund to enhance trade and productivity.

Furthermore, Kalu emphasized the necessity of a regional security integration policy and the appointment of a regional political leader who could effectively represent the interests of the Southeast in national politics.

Chief Emmanuel Iwuanyawu, the President General of Ohanaeze Ndigbo revealed that they had designed an interstate railway line connecting the Southeast states with Port Harcourt, Abuja, and Lagos.

Chief Iwuanyawu also highlighted the need for a functional international airport in the Igbo states, with the aim of attracting European airlines to the region.

He also announced the group’s intention to construct an international market in Umuahia, Aba, Owerri, and Onitsha, so that every Igbo individual, both at home and in the diaspora, would have a shop at the proposed market.
