The Abuja Municipal Area Council AMAC, has begun a free medical outreach for the treatment of eye diseases.
The Chairman of the Council, Christopher Maikalangu made the call at the flag off of a medical outreach targeted at over 30 thousand residents and distribution of over 10,000 reading glasses to affected residents beginning from Apo resettlement in Abuja.
Maikalangu, who was represented by the Supervisory Councillor for Health in AMAC, Mr Tunde Faoye said the gesture is geared towards improving the vision of residents.
He commended the AMAC Primary Health Care Department, Eye Care Aid Foundation and Vision Spring for bringing such a rare free medical outreach to the door steps of the residents.

Maikalangu assured the stakeholders of AMAC’s unwavering support for success of the outreach especially for people at the grassroots.
The Director, Public Health of the Council, Dr Modupe Adeyinka urged residents of the community and environs to take advantage of the outreach to check their eyes thoroughly for effective remedy.
She however appreciated all the stakeholders involved in the free eye care medical outreach adding that it will go a long way in ameliorating the plight of the residents.
Also speaking, Mr Asafa Suleiman of the Department of Public Health Eye Unit of the Federal Capital Territory Administration, described the eye as one of the significant organ of the body that should never be taken for granted.
He however appreciated all stakeholders and key players for making the outreach a success.
In a reaction, the Chief Executive Director of Eye Care Aid Foundation, Dr Adesuwa Agbontine said the eye been a sensitive organ of the body needs regular check to be free from silent blindness like Glaucoma, Cataract among others.
He added that the outreach is targeted at reaching over 30,000 residents before the end of June 2024 adding that adequate arrangement has also been made to carry out surgical operations on residents with severe cases.
