An Indian company has withdrawn a notice about suspension of visa services for Canadian citizens, minutes after stating on its website that the services were suspended following a notice from the Indian government.
Indian media reports, however, say visa services for Canadians remain suspended due to “operational reasons”. India’s visa processing centre in Canada also says it is suspending visa services on New Delhi’s order.
The developments come as a huge diplomatic dispute escalates over Canada’s allegation that Indian agents were potentially linked to the murder of Hardeep Singh Nijjar, a Sikh separatist leader, in June.
Meanwhile, another Sikh man, wanted by the police in India, has been killed during an alleged intergang violence in Canada’s Winnipeg province. The US says it is “deeply concerned” about the allegations made by Ottawa and has urged New Delhi to cooperate in the investigation.
