Super Eagles Drop To 40th In Latest Rankings

Super Eagles of Nigeria has dropped to 40th place in the latest FIFA world ranking, released by the football governing body on their website.

The new rankings which came out on Thursday saw the three time African champions go a step down from their initial spot of 39th in the world.

Even with a 6-0 victory over Sao Tome and Principe in the last group game of the African Cup Of Nations qualifiers, the Super Eagles were unable to do better than their previous ranking.

They however maintained the sixth position in Africa.

Morocco moved two places up to be placed 13th in the world and still first in Africa.

Completing the top five countries in Africa are Terangha Lions of Senegal (20), Carthage Eagles of Tunisia (29), Desert Foxes of Algeria (34) and Pharaohs of Egypt(35).

World Cup winners Argentina retained their number one position on the ranking.

With France, Brazil, England and Belgium completing the top five ranked teams by Fifa in the world.

The Super Eagles of Nigeria have at a point in time been ranked as high as the fifth best footballing nation in the world.
