The federal government has been urged to partner local miners as well as their multinational counterparts to transform mining in the country.
This is contained in a statement signed by the National Publicity Secretary of the Miners Association of Nigeria, MAN, Mr. Fatai Jimoh, in Abuja.
The statement explains that this has become necessary as miners in the country need financial assistance to properly fund their operations.
It acknowledges that the country’s solid minerals has over two million operators including six hundred and thirty three small scale mining companies and two hundred and fifty one thousand, five hundred registered miners.
The statement says, the mining industry needs improved power to process finished goods to add value.
According to the statement, the sector also needs a simplified renewal procedure for mining titles.
“The road linking the mining sites to major cities needs improvement, as the Nigeria mining industry needs more support and an enabling environment in terms of equipment.” Jimoh stresses.
On a recent remark by the Minister of Solid Minerals Development, Dele Alake, on the situation in the sector, the statement explains that the less than two percent GDP as reported by the minister should be seen as a new beginning, while the nation should focus on how to improve the sector.
According to the statement
Jimoh stresses that it is critical that the proposed Australian training be for Nigerian Mining Operators because it will create immediate transformation and improved productivity.
“So that with the over two Million operators, Nigeria will generate millions of employment opportunities from this sub sector and increase our GDP to double digit before the end of 2024” the MAN image maker emphasizes.
“The indigenous Nigeria Lease Holders should be profiled to work with the Multinationals- who will inject – Funds, Equipment, Technical Expertise, Market to boost the sector”.
“By doing so we will be able to build more indigenous Companies and the overall Performance of the Nigeria Mining Industry”.
