Federal Government has been advised to reduce the cost of governance to boost Nigeria’s revenue profile.

The former National Chairman of the Inter party Advisory Council, Chief Peter Ameh made the call while featuring on “Perspective” a Kapital FM current Affairs programme in Abuja.

Speaking on the theme “Assessing President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s 100 days in office, Chief Ameh stressed that a drastic reduction in the cost of governance is more crucial than addressing the revenue component.

He explained that the reduction would free up resources that could be used for other purposes, such as investing in infrastructure, education, and healthcare.

According to him, these investments could lead to economic growth, which in turn would generate more revenue for the government.

He therefore advised President Tinubu to urgently reduce the cost of governance by cutting down the number of appointees and ministers.

“if President Tinubu is keen on making progress in the management of the nation’s economy, he would have to cut down the cost of governance that steals development from Africa’s largest economy” Ameh stressed.

“Tinubu would need all the monies he can save and gain to do this. The country needs to increase its spending from its current very low levels, to promote economic development”.

“Over the years, fingers have continued to point at the over-bloated bureaucracies- large ministries, agencies and parastatals- that have become a cog in the wheel of Nigeria’s progress” he added.

The former National Chairman of IPAC further noted that the cost of governance is exceptionally high and the benefits little or nothing.

Also a caller on the programme, Mr. Sani Enejo who attributed high cost of living to the removal of fuel subsidy appealed to the government to provide affordable transportation system for the masses and also curb insecurity bedeviling the nation.

Another caller on the programme Mr. Vincent Oresa who expressed dissatisfaction over the way the fuel subsidy was removed without putting palliatives in place to cushion the effects called on the President to urgently ameliorate the plight of Nigerians
