135 Road Projects : Wike Warns Contractors Against Delay

The FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike has officially flagged off rehabilitation of 135 roads in the territory.

On the occasion in Abuja, the FCT Minister in the company of the Minister of State for FCT, Dr Mariya Mahmoud warned contractors handling the projects to deliver within the stipulated time as no variation cost would be tolerated should there be any form of delay.

Wike also called on the Federal Capital Territory Development Authority, FCDA, supervising the work to be very meticulous in terms of delivery as money for the project was available.

The Minister further assured that in line with the renewed hope agenda, the administration would deliver the job within the next six months.

He therefore appealed to community dwellers to be patient with the contractors about the traffic congestion and inconveniences that the rehabilitation may cause during this period.

Earlier, the Permanent Secretary FCTA, Mr Olusade Adesola said the project would also take care of remedial works of some bridges to make FCT better than what it used to be.

Also, the Executive Secretary, FCDA hinted that the road resurfacing will cover a 42km stretch of deteriorating roads, some of which were last worked on in the 80’s.

In a goodwill message, the Chairman House Committee on FCT, Aliyu Betera pledged the readiness of lawmakers to give the FCT Minister the needed support to enable him to execute people-oriented projects.

In a remark, the AMAC Chairman, Christopher Zakka commended the FCT administration for initiating the rehabilitation work and appealed to the Minister to extend the gesture to Area Council roads.

Areas to undergo rehabilitation include Garki, Wuse, and some parts of Maitama.
