UFC 293: Adesanya Passes Weigh-in To defend Title

Background

Nigerian mixed martial artist Israel Adesanya and UFC 293 opponent Sean Strickland were on point in there weigh-in for the main event bout.

The bout is billed for 3am Nigerian time on Sunday at the Qudos Bank Arena in Sydney, Australia.

UFC middleweight champion Adesanya was the first fighter to step to the scale and he hit the mark at 184.8 pounds.

Strickland who showed up late in the proceedings, needed to strip down before he successfully hit the weight limit at 184.9 pounds.

Prior to the weigh-in The Last Stylebender Adesanya promised fans a showcase for the main event as he will knockout the American.

While Strickland who is also known as Tarzan admitted that there is no easy way to beat the champion and that is what motivates him as he assured a good war.

Tarzan believes the pride of the middleweight division is lost and only him can restore the pride.

The fight card will also see Tai Tuivasa vs. Alexander Volkov in the co-main event.

  • Australia is the country where Adesanya began his middleweight reign after knocking out Robert Whittaker in a title unification bout.

  • The fight itself wasn’t meant to happen this quickly. Adesanya had initially penciled in to battle the no.1 contender for his belt, Dricus Du Plessis, but he suffered an injury which kept him out of action.
