Non- Payment Of Ground Rent A Breach Of Contract – Wike

todayAugust 21, 2023

Background

The newly appointed Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike has assured Nigerians that he will not disappoint President Bola Tinubu for appointing him as the FCT Minister, despite his party affiliation.

Wike who stated this in Abuja at a maiden media briefing as FCT Minister while responding to questions on which party flag to fly said residents should rather be concerned about the burning issues requiring intervention in FCT, and not the party flag he will be flying.

The newly sworn in FCT Minister stressed that he was ready to step on toes in the course of carrying out his statutory mandate to ensure that the Abuja master plan is restored to what the founding fathers conceived it to be.

His words: “I don’t care who you are, non payment of ground rent is a breach of convenant. I have come to support the new hope. I am not a new comer in this game. I will step on toes if u are doing things wrong. I will not be tired to revoke. Heaven will not fall”.

“… I will fly the Nigerian flag and ensure the FCT returns to the dreams of the founding fathers. We must make sure Abuja is safe. I am here to satisfy Nigerians. Party is a vehicle that gets you to a destination. Why should anyone be bothered about what party flag I will be flying? Ok bring PDP flag, I will fly it, bring Labour Party flag, I will fly it. The FCT is in this state and you think the people are bothered about the party flag I fly?

He further added that the Administration under his leadership will not keep files, but treat them promptly.

” I don’t keep files, I treat them that very day. I don’t want to disappoint Mr President, I did 12 fly overs in 4 years. I will do my work. I want to replicate what I did for my people in FCT. Am not a sitting minister that wait for reports. I will go out to monitor projects and see for myself”.

“We must also develop the Area Councils . In terms of appointments, I will encourage the indigenes and the non-ndigenes. But if you know you have built where you are not supposed to build, it will go down. Our green areas and parks must come back. Land racketeering days are over. Those who refuse to develop, turning themselves to land speculators will loose their lands.

On the moves to cushion the impact of transportation occasioned by the fuel subsidy removal, Wike said “We will provide alternatives to reduce the suffering of the people, particularly those without private vehicles. We will bring back mass transit to improve access to public transportation, and therefore, the person in charge of transportation must keep his record clean,” Wike warned
