The Tertiary Education Trust Fund, on Monday, said it increased its yearly intervention for Information and Communications Technology from N15m to N100m for universities in order to ensure that institutions meet up with the present digital reality globally.

TETFUND also stated that over two million students and members of the academic community in tertiary institutions across the country would soon have access to online academic resources through the deployment of “Blackboard Learning Platform.”

Speaking during the flag-off of a three-day workshop on the implementation of the Enhanced Blackboard Learning Management System in Abuja, the Executive Secretary of the TETFUND, Sonny Echono, noted that the workshop, which attracted directors of Information and Communication Technology from the 253 beneficiary institutions, was part of measures put in place to bridge the digital skills gap in universities, polytechnics and Colleges of Education in the country.

“Given the rising significance of Information and Communication Technology across diverse sectors, including education, this initiative has the potential to positively impact educators, advancement of our educational landscape,” he said

Echono said TETFUND was improving its allocation to  ICT development in its intervention programmes to ensure that the country met  digital reality across the globe.

“Prior to 2022, our ICT Support Intervention was N15m for universities and N7.5m for polytechnics and Colleges of Education. We took bold steps to increase this intervention to N100m for universities and N50m for polytechnics and Colleges of Education.
