Everton have signed free agent Ashley Young on a one-year deal after the full-back left Aston Villa this summer.
Young, 38, becomes Everton’s first signing under manager Sean Dyche and has joined the club on their pre-season training camp in Switzerland.
BBC Sport understands Young had held talks with Luton, while there was also interest from Saudi Arabia.
Wile Aston Villa have also announced the signing of Spain centre-back Pau Torres from Villarreal for a reported £31.5m.
Torres, 26, played under Villa boss Unai Emery with the Spanish club between 2020 and 2023.
The defender, who joined Villarreal’s youth academy in 2003, played a pivotal role as the Yellow Submarine finished fifth in La Liga last season.
Meanwhile, Saudi Arabian club Al Nassr have been banned from signing players until they pay money owed to Leicester City for Ahmed Musa, Fifa has ruled.
Leicester, who sold the Nigeria winger in 2018, have lodged a claim for an outstanding £390,000 payment.
Al Nassr made headlines by signing Cristiano Ronaldo last year.

“The relevant bans will be lifted immediately upon the settlement of the debts being confirmed by the creditors concerned,” Fifa said.
Wales captain Aaron Ramsey is close to completing a sensational return to his boyhood club Cardiff City.
The ex-Arsenal midfielder, 32, is having a medical with the Championship club on Thursday.
Ramsey is available on a free transfer after his contract at Nice expired last month, though final details have yet to be agreed.
He had attracted interest from other clubs but is eager to move home to south Wales with his family.
