Young To Have Everton Medical At Everton

Free agent Ashley Young has agreed to join Everton and is scheduled to have a medical on Tuesday after leaving Aston Villa this summer.

Young’s contract at Villa Park expired and BBC Sport understands he held talks with Luton, while there was also interest from Saudi Arabia.

Young, 38, won the Premier League and FA Cup with Manchester United, as well as the Serie A title with Inter Milan.

The full-back would be Everton’s first signing under manager Sean Dyche.

Former Burnley boss Dyche took over in January, replacing the sacked Frank Lampard, and guided the club to Premier League survival on the final day of the season.

Fulham and West Ham Interested In Harwood

Meanwhile, Fulham and West Ham are among a number of Premier League clubs interested in England’s European Under-21 Championship-winning captain Taylor Harwood-Bellis.

The 21-year-old Manchester City defender led the Young Lions to their first European title in 39 years with victory over Spain in Saturday’s final.

He also won the Championship while on loan at Burnley last season.

It is understood City value Harwood-Bellis at about £15m.

Harwood-Bellis, who is entering the final year of his contract at City, was name-checked by England manager Gareth Southgate during the senior international break last month.

McGregor Signs New five-year Deal

Also, Captain Callum McGregor has signed a new five-year contract with Celtic.

The 30-year-old Scotland midfielder has been with the Scottish champions since the age of nine and made his debut in July 2014.

He has scored 62 goals in 420 games and won 20 trophies with the club, including five domestic trebles.

“He’s the heartbeat of this team,” said manager Brendan Rodgers, who added it was “extra special to have someone of that quality as captain”.

Rodgers called McGregor an “inspirational player – that’s undervalued immensely”.
