The Abuja Municipal Area Council, AMAC, has distributed Agricultural inputs to over six hundred farmers in the area council.

On the occasion, the Executive Chairman, Christopher Maikalangu said the move was to enhance food production in the interest of residents.

Maikalangu explained that distribution of fertilizers, farm inputs and other implements to farmers was part of his administration’s commitment to boost food security in the Council.

The AMAC Boss, who described agriculture as a viable option that must be embraced with vigor stressed that his administration must continue to deploy greater effort to support agriculture, particularly farming for better yield.

The AMAC Boss, said that the annual policy direction was aimed at enhancing the capacity of farmers to sustain the immense support and worthy investment in the agricultural sector.

He however appealed to beneficiaries to put the agricultural inputs to proper use and shun any form of diversion to improve crop yield and income for farmers especially those in the rural communities.

The Supervisory Councillor on Agriculture, Saleh Biu commended the chairman for the kind gesture describing agriculture as a panacea to social vices and encouraged youths to embrace it to shun Idleness.

Mr Biu said due to the renewal policy program of the FCT, most farm lands have been taken over by developers as farmers can no longer access farm lands for their subsistence farming and other agricultural purposes hence the agricultural relief inputs will go a long way to promote agricultural activities in the council which is one of the viable economic power of the people.

He also enjoined farmers to strive to engage in good agricultural practices that would bring about a turn around while commending the department of Agriculture and natural resources of AMAC for their effort in making the distribution a reality.

The Agricultural inputs distributed include 600 bags of fertilizer, 20 Wheelbarrows, Sprayers, Smoking Kiln, Hoes, Cutlasses, Rain boots and two Motorcycles for the agricultural extension workers among others.
