NDLEA Declares War Against Illicit Drugs

No fewer than Thirty one thousand arrests have been made with over Six Point Three Million Kilograms of Assorted drugs seized and over Five thousand offenders prosecuted in the last two years by the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, NDLEA.

The Chairman of NDLEA, Retired Brigadier General Buba Marwa stated this in Abuja at a Forum organized to commemorate the 2023 International Day against drug abuse and illicit drug trafficking.

Represented by the Agency’s Spokesman, Mr Femi Babafemi, NDLEA Chairman said the organization is collaborating with security agencies and other stakeholders to extend the campaign to rural areas.

According to him, NDLEA was Coordinating a cross border collaboration to check importation of illicit drugs into the country..

Retired Brigadier General Buba Marwa explained that NDLEA state offices were doing a lot to identify and destroy Canabis plantations across the country.

Chairman Abuja Municipal Area Council, Mr Zakka Maikalangu said the council was collaborating with traditional and religious institutions in sensitizing residents on the negative effects of drug abuse.

Represented by the Vouncil Secretary, Mr Jafaru Gwagwa, The chairman appealed to Youths to desist from intake of illicit drugs and contribute to the development of the council and the nation.

A guest Speaker, Dr Williams Ebita advocated capacity building on human rights, protection and safety for information providers as well as transparency in the fight against illicit drugs by NDLEA.

The Forum with the Theme Advancing the recitalized campaign against drug abuse in Nigeria: Path to progress featured recognition of Prominent Nigerians including the Emir of Keffi in Nasarawa state who has supported the fight against illicit drugs in the country.
