NCPWD Enrols 500 PWDs On NHIS

The National Commission for Persons With Disabilities, NCPWD has enrolled five hundred People With Disabilities in the Federal Capital Territory on the National Health Insurance Scheme, NHIS.

Speaking during the distribution of the NHIS registration cards to the beneficiaries in Karmajiji Abuja, the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management and Social Development, Dr. Nasir Sani Gwarzo commended the visionary leadership of the Executive Secretary of NCPWD, Mr James David Lalu towards providing health care delivery to Persons With Disabilities in the country.

Dr. Gwarzo said aside the health care services, about 120 children with disabilities had been offered scholarship from primary one to six in the last four years by the former Speaker of the House of Representatives and now Chief of Staff to the President, Mr Femi Gbajabiamila.

According to him, plans are also on ground to relocate People With Disabilities from Karmajiji to their permanent site in Zuba Abuja.

In a remark, the Executive Secretary, National Commission for Persons With Disabilities , NCPWD, Mr James David Lalu who said FCT was chosen as a pilot scheme for the project stated that all registered and captured persons with disabilities on NCPWD data base nationwide would benefit from the health care programme.

Mr Lalu said the NHIS scheme which would be renewed for beneficiaries after 12 months was part of the Commission’s welfare programme for persons with disabilities in the country.

He explained that the Commission is equally collaborating with the Bank of Industry, BOI, towards securing business loans for small scale business owners among persons with disabilities in the country.

While reiterating the determination of NCPWD towards uplifting the living standard of persons with disabilities in line with the Renewed Hope agenda of President Bola Tinubu, the Executive Secretary added that the Commission is also collaborating with the Corporate Affairs Commission, CAC, in registering those with business ideas to enable them contribute to economic development.

Speaking on behalf of the beneficiaries, the Secretary, People With Disabilities Community in Karmajiji Abuja, Mallam Mohammed Dantani thanked NCPWD for enrolling persons with disabilities in the FCT in the NHIS Scheme.

Mallam Dantani used the opportunity to solicit for monthly allowance for the Chief, Persons With Disabilities to further encourage him in promoting their welfare.
