PDP Convention Charting Inclusiveness, Revival, For Greater National Impact – Wike

todayMarch 30, 2026

Background

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has opened a new chapter of inclusiveness, unity, and renewal as party leaders and delegates converged for its National Convention, marking what many describe as a historic turning point after a prolonged internal crisis.

Addressing thousands of party faithful, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory and PDP National Leader, Mr Nyesom Wike, said the party had successfully overcome a leadership crisis that once threatened its very existence.

He noted that through resilience, loyalty, and collective determination, members resisted forces of division and restored the party to its foundational values of internal democracy, rule of law, and people-centered leadership.

According to him, “we stood firmly together under the umbrella and overcame a tragic crisis that sought to destroy our great party. Today, we have reclaimed it for the people.”

Wike commended party members, particularly those at the grassroots, for their steadfastness during the turbulent period, describing them as the true pillars of the PDP.

He praised their refusal to defect despite provocations and political uncertainty, noting that their faith and commitment had culminated in the party’s resurgence.

The PDP leader emphasized that the future of the party must be anchored on inclusiveness, unity, and renewal, calling on aggrieved members and former allies to return and join in rebuilding efforts.

“No one will be excluded. We must create equal opportunities for all and ensure that the voices of the people are heard and respected,” he stated.

The convention witnessed the presence of key party stalwarts, including Sule Lamido and Bukola Saraki, among others, signaling a show of strength and renewed solidarity within the party’s ranks.

Out of 2,527 delegates expected at the convention, 2,415 were successfully accredited, reflecting a strong turnout and widespread participation.

Also present were officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission, led by National Commissioners Prof. Sani Adams (SAN) and Dr. Ken Ukeagu, alongside other senior officials, underscoring the regulatory body’s role in overseeing the process.

Observers say the convention represents more than a routine political gathering, but a strategic reset for the PDP as it repositions itself for future electoral contests and national relevance.

With renewed energy and a clear message of unity, the party appears poised to rebuild its structures and reconnect with Nigerians across all levels.

As proceedings continue,d, the tone remained one of optimism and determination, an affirmation that the PDP, once written off by critics, is charting a path toward revival and greater national impact.
