The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has affirmed that the National Convention of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), scheduled for March 29 and 30, will proceed as planned.
Wike stated this shortly after inspecting the Moshood Abiola National Stadium Velodrome, the venue for the convention in Abuja.
Wike said reconciliation efforts with aggrieved members would continue after the convention, emphasizing that such processes are common in any large political organization.
The Minister dismissed concerns over the appeal filed at the Supreme Court by the Tanimu Turaki group, insisting it would not affect the exercise.
He also expressed confidence in the party’s future, declaring that the PDP would “shock Nigerians” in the 2027 general election by demonstrating its strength.
Wike, who was accompanied by key party stakeholders, including former Abia state governor Okezie Ikpeazu, Chairman of the PDP Board of Trustees, Mao Ohuabunwa, and National Secretary, Samuel Anyanwu, noted that unity within the party remains a priority.

According to him, “There is room for accommodation. The PDP is a large party, and like any family, there will always be grievances. What matters is our willingness to engage, understand concerns, and work towards unity in the overall interest of the party.”
On zoning, Wike confirmed that key positions have already been allocated across regions, with the presidency zoned to the South and the chairmanship to the North, a move he said would foster consensus and reduce internal friction.
“For the first time, the PDP is presenting a unified front, rather than a so-called ‘unity list’ that often reflects internal divisions. There are no factions; everyone has agreed on the direction we are taking,” he added.
On preparedness, the Minister disclosed that arrangements were nearly complete.
“We are about 95 percent ready. Seating for all states has been finalized, including the VIP section. We do not expect more than 2,500 delegates,” he said.
The PDP National Convention is scheduled to hold on Sunday, March 29, and Monday, March 30, in Abuja.
